Do you build in the winter?

Categories: Home Builder FAQ, Maplewood Homes |

There are a lot of misconceptions about home building.  One we usually get this time of year is that you either need to hurry up and get it roughed-in before the snow flies or you wait and “build in the spring.”  We build year-round and do just as nice a job on the homes we build in winter.  We do take some extra precautions in the winter to keep fresh concrete from freezing.  We also add a few days to the construction schedule just in case it’s blizzarding while we’re trying to install a roof.  As a home building client, you can be assured that we will honor our warranties all the same and deliver the same attention to detail and level of quality no matter when the home is built.  So yes, we do build in the winter!

Design/Build Class Completed

National Association of Homebuilders

National Association of Homebuilders

I have just completed another course through the National Association of Homebuilders and now have only one course remaining to earn my “Certified Graduate Builder” professional designation.  The Design/Build class course objectives are (from NAHB):

Explain design in the context of design/build
Understand how incorporating design into your business will impact your build operation
Illustrate the process for implementing design/build
Develop design/build marketing strategies
Implement the design/build full-service sell concept
Determine whether design/build is right for your company

Although we already offer Design / Build services at Maplewood Homes, it’s great to learn more about how other builders have implemented systems to handle the process and improve upon what we do.  We spent most of the class discussing real-world examples and the shared experiences of a group of dedicated building professionals.

Beautiful Homesites on Forest Meadows Drive in Ludington

Categories: Ludington Real Estate News, Maplewood Homes |

Looking for a great place to build a new home in Ludington?  How about a beautifully wooded 1 acre lot close to town, on a paved road, in a new subdivision with all new homes?  We were able to get really good pricing on these home sites by buying them all together as a package.  We are passing the savings along to anyone who selects as their builder.  You can take $10,000 off the advertised price shown below.

To get to the site, Take Jebavy Dr. north from US-10/Ludington Ave to Decker Rd.  Turn left and go 1 mile to Lincoln, turn right and go 1/2 mile to Forest Meadows Drive.

Dates for the 2012 Fall Parade of Home in Grand Rapids

Categories: Ludington News & Notes, Maplewood Homes |

The Fall Parade of Homes in Grand Rapids is coming up October 5th – October 20th.  This is a little bit of a drive for those of us here in Mason or Oceana Counties, but I like to go, and I think it’s worth the trip.  I think you can always learn from other builders and since we are so far away, they usually don’t mind talking to me.  If you’re thinking about building a new home, it’s a great way to get some new ideas.  More info HERE.

Update on the Ludington Home Market

Categories: Ludington Real Estate News |

Maplewood Homes’ office here at Greenridge Realty in Ludington provides me a great deal of contact with some of the area’s top real estate agents.  I get a pretty good feel for the market and right now I am surprised at how hot the market is.  Our office is up 28% year-to-date and things seem to be accelerating, not slowing down.  Average sale price is up 29%.  This reflects the fact that we are no longer heavily weighted towards distressed sales and people are starting to get fair prices on their homes.  We are also seeing increased traffic for new home clients through our model home and are expecting to start a couple new homes yet this year.  We’re still a long way off the boom days before the housing bubble burst, but we’re definitely having our best year since 2008.  It’s still a great time to buy or build a new home.

2012 Parade of Homes is in the books

Categories: Ludington News & Notes, Maplewood Homes |

The 2012 HBA of West Michigan Parade of Homes is officially in the books and it was a great success. We had 200 people through our three homes and that compares to just 116 that came through in 2009. For the past two years, the parade of homes was canceled because there just weren’t enough builders to have it. So from being canceled to having 7 homes and nearly double the number of turn out! I want to say a special “Thank You” to Chris & Erika and to Dave and Terry for opening up their homes to the parade and letting us show off our work. If you missed the parade, you can still come out anytime and see our Model Home – just give me a call!
